It was here that had his first experience in any form of martial arts when he trained at the Crow Mountain Dojo just outside of Russellville for roughly 6 months where he gained the basics of Aikido and Judo. After college Larry took some time off before moving to Little Rock, Arkansas and worked in commercial security while playing semi-professional football. Less than a year later, Larry moved back to Mena where he worked on the family farm and continued to play semi-professional football for two more years with a team based in Paris, Arkansas. It was during this time that he started training with Southern Impact Martial Arts in 2010. During Larry's first year of martial arts training he continued playing football through the 2010 season but after the season's completion he opted to focus more on martial arts. In 2011, after 18 months of training he took his first amateur fight in Hugo, Oklahoma and won via second round submission. A year later he took his second fight in Little Rock, Arkansas and won via first round submission. Shortly afterwards Larry took 4 month hiatus from training in order to return to school and earn his EMT license from Rich Mountain Community College in order to help as a first responder for the Board Camp Fire Department of which Larry has been a member since 2012. Once Larry returned to training he was gradually integrated from student to one of the trainers for Southern Impact and also took his third fight in 2014 in Hot Springs, Arkansas and lost via third round referee stoppage. Following his third fight Larry continued to teach and train but did not return to the cage until 2016 which he did in Shreveport, Louisiana and won via second round  submission. Larry had no intention of progressing his fight career beyond his fourth fight but still regularly trains and teaches at Southern Impact Martial Arts.
